How to Meditate in the Shower, by Vegan Guru Alessandra

There’s been a ton of talk about meditation and affirmations in the wellness world lately. The benefits of taking a few minutes to meditate each morning will improve your entire day! A recent Harvard Medical School study even showed that meditation actually changes the structure of the brain. It is proven to improve cognition, memory, emotional regulation, and reduce mind wandering and stress. Meditation is a practice though. It’s like going to the gym; you can’t expect to improve your physical strength by going to the gym only one time. It has to be a consistent, daily habit.

This meditation technique is a practice that takes no extra time out of your day, guarantees you a distraction free space, and is extremely easy to implement in your daily routine. Oh and it’s absolutely free! It requires no app download or subscription fee. Heck, you don’t even need to purchase a meditation cushion! 

THE SHOWER VISUALIZATION MEDITATION 

(Yes, that’s right - it’s literally a meditation that you do while you are showering).

Here’s the how-to:

  1. As you shampoo your hair, get present; massage your scalp, connect with your breath, and feel the water on your skin.
  2. Continue to focus on your breath as you let the water rinse the soap from your hair. Visualize any stress, anxiety, and worries leaving your body and being carried away down the drain.
  3. Once all of the energy that does not serve you has left your body and gone down the drain (literally!), visualize a white light entering your body through the top of your head and moving down to your heart and throughout your entire body. This white light is an energy of positivity, peace, healing, and love.
  4. Visualize this white light radiating from your body and turning into a positive energy field that surrounds you, protects you, and sends out good vibes into the world all day long.

It’s funny but true that the shower is one of the only places we find ourselves free from distractions these days, making it the perfect place for a daily practice. This meditation technique is so powerful because when you’re washing your physical body in the shower, it is a lot easier to visualize washing away stress and negativity from your energetic body at the same time. This technique also makes it extremely easy to establish meditation as a habit since showering is something that is done on a daily basis. Let the act of showering be a trigger that reminds you to meditate every single day.
